mighty
August 15, 2008You will be on solid ground soon. Soon. You will remember to look up at the stars soon. Soon. You will be enjoying it all again soon. Soon. Hang in there and just take little baby steps. One task at a time. One day. One hour. One moment. One breath.
You are not required to be perfect or put on a good show. You don’t have to keep it all together all the time. And if you start to fall apart at the seams, quietly excuse yourself and remember that what you are doing/feeling/thinking right now is really really ok. Even if it looks like other people are living magic while you’re in the middle of desert quicksand.
And you… you are a powerful thing. You feel it all deeply. You think independently and solidly. You got good bones that hold you strong, even if everything else is liquid around them.
You are good. You are mighty. And you are whole.

Thank you. I printed this out. I taped it to my fridge, to the front door, on my desk, on my bathroom mirror… I’ll continue to read it until I believe it

Hey Penelope! I’m glad you wrote this for you and thank you for sharing. It is exactly what I need, and I didn’t even know I was looking for something to make me feel better about how I’m feeling and what’s going on (or not going on, really) in my life right now. A big hug :)

You rock penelope :) I so needed to read this right now. My husband and I are moving to San Francisco in 9 days and everything is nutso at this moment. But we’ll get through it. And I don’t have to be perfect. One thing at a time… (I still have an illustration that you did of a bird building a nest with the phrase “one thing at a time” - love that…)

Yes, you ARE.

That’s a great photo! Pregnancy starts the process of turning your life inside out and upside down, that becoming a mother completes. I am not sure if I’ve ever felt myself on solid ground since…but, oh what a ride!

Oh! Thank you Penelope for the remind. I send you a big and mighty hug.

I’ve not been feeling like solid ground exists where I live and breathe lately…thank you for reminding me that life ebbs and flows. I sometimes forget, and become enveloped in frustration and hopelessness…losing sight of the fact that it could be 24 minutes, 24 hours, or 24 days until I’m smiling and laughing again, content. Thank you for reminding me that I’m strong, too. This family appears to have gained another mighty tough woman.
Love,
YSIL
P.S. Adorable picture. You still don’t look pregnant :)
