shhh…

Been feeling quiet lately. I tried to write, but it won’t come out easily… what I have to tell you. So I decide not to force it. It’ll all be said when it wants to be.

Been hanging out a lot in my studio, working up a storm. Projects that I’m throwing myself into and totally loving. In love with art. Design. Collaboration. Paint. I just want to eat it up right now and am enjoying that feeling…

Set up a painting area in my garage where I can spill and not have to clean it up. Where cobwebs and dust help me paint. Where the tacks on the wall add some texture and inspire me. Ahh… Freedom.

Been listening to a lot of Cougar while I paint. It’s almost like laying down in the bow of a sailboat and rocking. Closing your eyes and just letting that feeling of space and rolling waves have you for a while.

Sideways sunshine. Dogwoods letting their flowers go like snow. Pink noses.

I love this new piece and I don’t think you need words to communicate :-) Clearly, creating in your garage agrees with you.

I was so totally positive that “Cougar” was a reference to Mellencamp that I paused before I clicked the button.

One of my favorite nonfiction essays is “Seeing” by Annie Dillard. I think it’s in “A Pilgrim at Tinker Creek” (a whole gorgeous book). The essay is about her own epiphany of being suddenly gifted by sight–with digressions into her reading about children who were blind since birth but had operations and were then able to see. I think you might really dig it.

    Penelope,
This is the painting that my friends gave me for my wedding — and I wanted to thank you!

My husband and I were completely stunned at how amazing and gorgeous it is! We adore it - there are no other words. In fact, today is our 6-mo anniversary and I’m looking at it as I type this — and I’m totally filled with gratitude that we have a piece that so profoundly captured that day…THANK YOU. (And, I love the blog).

    Courtney
