Happy Friday everyone! Above is the 4th painting for the show in September. I am not sure why she looks so sad… but I have been staring at her from across the room and every time I look at her I imagine a different story that leads up to this image… is she walking home from a costume party? Was she just transformed from a butterfly into a person? Is she wishing she could fly away? … I don’t know. Maybe you have a good story for her…

I am off to visit my family for a long weekend… very excited to see everyone. But there’s no traveling in august so I can really concentrate on painting for the show and all the assignments that are on my to-do list now. yay.

Have a good weekend. :)

Very striking and thought provoking. I like all the lines.

Oh, I love this! The colors are beautiful and her expression really makes you think. The sad expression- mixed in with all that beauty- really draws you in. I think she was transformed into a human for a guy who turned out to be a player. He’s gone and now she wants to go back to being a butterfly but can’t. Lol…don’t worry, I am married and I’m not a man-hater.

I love this piece! She is beautiful - maybe she is the queen butterfly. The colors are great and I love the piece in her hair - I think I want one for my hair!

she looks like she just awoke and unfurled from the cocoon…

maybe she’s seen those butterflies flying around her, and she decided to try too, got herself some wings, but she’s not managed to take flight yet, therefore she’s blue…?

This is lovely. It’s my favorite one for the show so far.

she seems passively demanding of her viewer’s attention. i love the sensitivity in your figures. i’d love to see them close up. maybe post a detail sometime?

for me, i never quite know the ‘real’ story behind my pieces til much time has passed after i made them. and then, i think, oh, of course. it’s so obvious. i do love, however, how each viewer finishes the story for themselves. keep the energy going! xojenny

Reminds me of when Drew Barrymore was dressed as a butterfly in the Cinderella movie Ever After.

When I saw her, I sensed antcipation in her eyes, like she’s about to pounce and follow through on a thought that just occurred to her.

I love the linework. Another favorite. I really think you’ve turned a good stone with these new paintings.

  15. Marissa Says:

I just went to a butterfly festival in Dayton OH yesterday and I think I can see her trapesing right through the butterfly house I walked through. She is beautiful.

I’m hoping to make it over to your show in Indy and maybe even get a weekend away with the husband because of it, too.

  16. Colin Says:

Hey Marissa - if you have time in Indy, there’s a butterfly house at the zoo as well. It’s beeeautiful. All windows and catwalks and flowers.
