the anti-party
December 19, 2006Looks like I struck a chord with the anti-party thing, huh. I didn’t realize so many people were opposed to parties like me! I think we should band together and have an anti-party party. At my new house… yeah! You all can come over and we’ll each bring a book that we’re into and something good to drink (for me right now, that’d be grapefruit crystal light), and we’ll each be assigned a corner to be alone in. No talking, schmoozing or hum-hawing. I’ll supply the chips and salsa, and some southern pickled ocra and we’ll be all set…
Hey… yes… you did read that above correctly. I did say MY NEW HOUSE!
!!!
We made an offer on a house late last week and it was finally accepted four days later, after much too much negotiating. I am a little hesitant to get all fired up about it because there is still the inspection and appraisal and all that legal mumbo jumbo that we have to go through before it is officially (pinky in the air) OURS. But… it’s almost official, so scratch that hesitation… Let’s celebrate (in our assigned corners)!
It was one in the first few batches of houses we looked at. Neither of us were totally taken with it at first, but it fit all our criteria, so we kept it on our list while we kept looking. All the advice we were getting from our real estate lady, our friends and local people said that it was in a good area and we should jump on it. But still, we waited… unsure because we didn’t walk in and “feel it”…
But we didn’t find anything else that really fit the bill and felt like we were putting too much weight on the home decision… I mean, it’s just a house, really. The house is not where the love is. It’s what’s inside the house. It’s us…
So we asked to see it one more time and that’s when we started to fall in love. We felt like we could make it a really happy home. We could make it ours. So we made an offer.
And since it was accepted, my mind has been preoccupied with what colors to paint and where furniture will go. We are finally stepping into the fun part! Oh god! It’s the best Christmas present ever! The fun part in all this moving business! Hooray!
!!!
p.s. Tomorrow is the LAST DAY before the new year to order a print. I’ll be going to the post on Thursday morning for the last time this year. So get last minute orders in now!
p.s.s. A gigantic HAPPY 40th BIRTHDAY to my very dear friend, Wee. I hope this next year is indeed your springboard year! xo

Congratulations on the house! My husband and I did the same thing. We picked
the colors of each room before they even accepted our offer.

p- congrats on the new house. I know paint can be overwhelming so i thought I would share an idea. When I moved in Jan this year, I did not have time to buy a bunch of quarts and try them out ( even if I could have made a decision on color). Instead, I spent $250 for one hour to a famous hotel interior designer to give me paint advice. I’ll pass along her wisdom… If you like white trim, paint the whole house with two colors-sherman williams Snowbound 7004 on the trim and accessible beige 7036 flat wall paint. She said this combination is amazing- they use it throughout the world. I did not love the color when I went to see the chips, but I painted it anyway. She was so right! This neutral beige color is rare in that it doesn’t take on different tones in different rooms/lighting differences. She claimed this would set off the artwork best. And if I didnt like it- no loss because it would work as a primer base so I would only need one more coat of a different color. I love it, and much to my surprise- never have wanted to change it. It doesn’t compete with anything. It was worth the $250 for that advice alone. Best of luck. Lori
