The Seven Day Sit officially ends tomorrow (Saturday). That was seven days. Can you believe it? Did it seem to fly by for you too?
I invite you, once again, to share your experience in the comments if you’d like. Have you been diligent and disciplined by sitting every day? Have you cheated or forgotten a [...]

Typographical Commission

Another really fun job I worked on recently was a personal commission for a woman who wanted a favorite quote made into a personal art piece. I loved the quote and kind of went hog wild with the assignment (I love doing hand-made typography!)… doing many versions. I liked them all for different reasons.

Friskey Design, Wellesley magazine

Janet Friskey of Friskey Design commissioned me to do an editorial piece for Wellesley Magazine. The illustration accompanied a story about one woman’s Indian feminist history. We chose to go with an image of a young college-aged woman looking down at her reflection and seeing her great-grandmother, grandmother and mother reflected back. I made the [...]

ShopSmart Magazine, Shop Green and Save

I recently completed this job for ShopSmart Magazine. The article was about what green products are really green, and which are not quite there yet. I did some illustrations that were then married with product photographs. I think it turned out sharp. Below are the illustrations themselves. And down further you can see them in [...]

May 24, 2010

So did you sit yesterday? How was it? If you want to share anything, please do in the comments. Anything that made it easier or harder for you? Did you keep checking the clock over and over or did the 5 minutes breeze by? (Setting an alarm might be an option if you found yourself [...]

Seven Day Sit

May 20, 2010

Last night I listened to a Speaking of Faith podcast featuring Matthieu Ricard… a Tibetan monk labeled “The Happiest Man on Earth” after his brain was studied by scientists. He was one of those monks they hooked up to all those electrodes and measured brain waves as he meditated. (Click here for a fascinating article.)
Anyway, [...]

I was a horrible mother today.

May 18, 2010

The last few days have been tough. It’s been raining and cold so we’re stuck inside (which makes both me and Veda crazy). Veda’s got a cold. And she’s popping up new teeth left and right so she’s in pain and not sleeping well. And I’ve been busy with work at night. Busy trying to [...]

Creative Therapy, Guest Artist

May 11, 2010

Last week I was featured as the guest artist for a wonderful website called Creative Therapy. The site is dedicated to the idea of using art, scrapbooking, photography, etc as a form of self-therapy. I was asked to pick a prompt to spark an idea for a piece of art, and I chose “Did you [...]

I want to wish all the mamas out there a very happy mother’s day this Sunday! I hope you’re going on wild adventures, squeezing in as many smiles as possible, capturing that laughter in your heart, and remembering to honor yourself for doing this beautiful but also super tough job. I’m so grateful to all [...]

fearless

May 6, 2010

I took the night off last night (I work at night now that I’m a mama) to watch this movie. And I loved it. LOVED IT. It was made in 1991 and that really shows, but I thought it was so inspiring I just had to share it. If you want a reason to live [...]

it all counts

May 5, 2010

This afternoon I planted tomatoes to start a small container garden on the terrace. This was an act of defiance against the feeling of restlessness that I’ve had ever since we put the house on the market. This was me literally putting roots back in the ground as a reminder that I should be living [...]
