New work – Oprah Magazine

oprahmag

Recently I had the pleasure of working for Oprah Magazine again (the December issue with Ellen Degeneres on the cover). This time I have two spots in the beauty column. The first little drawing was about people in India who shave their heads twice in their lives for spiritual reasons. And the second was about a new scent-sensing computer that helps a person find their signature scent. (To see them in context, click here for my news section.)

We had the magazine and Jan was so excited last night to show me. She said “Let me show you something…does this look like Penny’s art?”

Wow! That is great to be in O again.

Congratulations! That sounds like a fun project – and they look great.
I also wanted to thank you for the information on your process that you posted a while back. It was really helpful. I’ve been meaning to buy a better scanner and try to use the computer a bit in my artwork (I actually still like to use ink and a crow quill at times, so I won’t get too high tech too quickly). I have one more question: at what resolution do you scan your sketches to work on them digitally?
Thanks for Illustration Friday too; I always look forward to it, even if I can’t always make time to play.

Tatjana: I usually scan the paintings in at at least 350 dpi. Usually a big higher so I have wiggle room in the final size. ADs usually need a 300 dpi file for final delivery though.

    Hope that helps! :)
