good morning, sunshine

“Babe! My face exploded!”

This is how I woke Colin up this morning after I’d accidently scratched open the strawberry (the small red mole) on my cheek. I was sleeping somewhat soundly and suddenly felt wetness gush all over my face. I jumped out of bed (I still have no idea how I managed that with my lack of functioning abdominal muscles) and found a bloody mess in the bathroom mirror — I looked like I’d been shot. My face was covered in bright red blood from the eyeballs down. eee! I managed to wipe myself off and get pressure on it while Colin scrambled around for wads of kleenex and band-aids.

After about a half hour of hard pressure, it finally stopped and I fell back to sleep for a few hours looking like I’d had a recent schnoz job.

Then I woke up to two massive nosebleeds.

Not a super morning.

I posted the new Illustration Friday topic and decided that I needed to chill for the day. So I sent off the two jobs I had in the wings and plunged out into the -18 degree weather for a long lunch and a trip to the bookstore. I’m so glad I did. I started feeling instantly better when we picked up my mom and sister and started laughing about it all.

Laughing is good therapy.

I owe ya’ll a belly bump pic soon, don’t I? I’m 37 weeks now, due Feb 7th. Do you think I’ll go early? Let’s make a bet. I’ve been noticing some minor braxton hicks contractions. Hmm… It’s probably nothing yet, right?

I bet you’ll be early…and YES! a baby bump pic would be wonderful! Sorry you had a rough morning, but glad you’re feeling better. I had braxton hicks contractions for 3 weeks before my daughter finally came. I had an induction scheduled and everything…then she decided to come 5 hours before I was to be induced…so you never know of course. The difference between braxton hicks contractions and the real ones…is that the real ones hurt like all the way around from your abdomen to your back…and they become very regular and keep getting closer together. Good luck with everything and keep up posted please!!!

us, not up. i should learn to type more slowly…or proofread…one of the two!

braxtons are good. doing work early is a good thing for labor, it gets your body ready for the real work. i was on the day with number one and two and a half weeks late with number 2…moral of the story? babies come when they are ready! hmm early? i think that you will be on time… what a panic of a morning though. glad you worked through it and “went for the walk…. glad you are feeling better and laughing. that is the best!
    hugs,

I’m guessing February 6th. Yes ma’am. Just as sure as your face exploded one fine Friday morning, that baby’s coming on Friday, February 6.

Oh man, Penny! What a morning. So glad you got out and laughed your way through it all. Sometimes, it’s the only thing we can do.

I’m so excited for you to meet your little miss. xo

My first child (Miika) was due on February 7th and was born on the 3rd…so that will be my vote! All the agony might be looming heavy now, but soon after your baby is born, all of that will disappear from your memory. Blessings!

you had one heck of a morning. i think you will go full term. First timers usually are. I say you go over a day.

how cool you are having an aquiarius baby girl! I am so happy for you guys, good luck with everything!

penny, to stop bleeding on the face, try a used tea bag. the tannic acid really helps. i busted my lip once and it absolutely would not stop bleeding- but the tea bag worked like magic.
practice the 3 types of breathing and you can control your labor..i actually learned the most from the lamaze video i got at the library when i had my 3rd child.
my first and second labors were about 15 hours or so, and that’s not counting the time at home. with the 3rd- got to the hospital at 11:14 and he was born at 11:24. BE PREPARED. all labors are different.
    God bless you!

you don’t know me, but I love your blog and come to it regularly. I just had a baby on November 16th. This was 3 days late. I thought I was going to go early. I wanted to go early. I had braxton’s for many weeks before. Babes come when they are ready. I cannot imagine my life without my boy, Zeke.
    I wish you luck!

If that baby is an aguarius, as stated above, just remember that is what I am! Hopefully you will go into labor on time or before because you have waited long enough that the last week or so (especially if you go past your due date) is WAY TOO SLOW! Either way, you will do just fine.

btw, do you have a name picked out?

  12. penelope says:

Hey Val! We don’t have a name picked out yet. We’re kind of back and forth between 2 now… both so different. But I think we’ll have to meet her to decide. I don’t think I’m going to share them here beforehand though… gotta keep some things a surprise! :)

  13. Josh says:

January 31st is a great day to be born ;) …yeah it’s my birthday. Wouldn’t you like a little Aquarius in your life?

  14. I would love to share a birthday with your girl…. Go on the 3rd! Yay Aquarius!
