the nursery
This weekend Colin’s mom came up and we worked on the nursery. One of the few rooms in the new house we are finished with. And I’m really happy with it! It feels very cheerful and fun. My original idea was to do robin’s egg blue walls with orange accents, but the room is so tiny, it would have felt claustrophobic to have all the walls painted. So we left all but one white. The far wall we painted black with chalk board paint. (I’m looking forward to drawing on that before baby bean gets here.)
All the furniture is second hand … in fact, most of it came from my step-mom’s thrift store and we painted it white. The tall cabinet on the right we found for $40 at another thrift place. The striped rug is from IKEA (courtesy of ebay). And the toy basket on the floor to the left is from Ten Thousand Villages.
I hung up a TON of artwork from my collection. That was actually the hardest part… getting all the shapes and colors balanced. But I think it’s working. Click on the image to go to the flickr set, where you can see notes about the art. This baby will have lots of good eye candy to peek at as she’s being changed. :)

Oh P, it’s absolutely gorgeous!! Want to come do my bedroom too? LOL ;)
Oh! It’s beautiful, and so unique. I love it!

Oh, it’s beautiful!!
What a cool + cute looking room! The black and white goes well with the floorboards, love the fact that it’s 2nd hand furniture, makes it more unique! Chx
The room looks really fresh and spacious. Go second hand! Woot woot!
oh penny….that is the coolest. just want a nursery should be. fun, sassy and simple. the chalkboard paint is perfect!
It’s absolutely perfect. What a lucky little girl to grow up in such a colorful & inspiring space.

it is SO beautiful it makes me sick (in a good way of course). You just exposed a new avenue of money making abilities!
What a heavenly room! Nesting is so fun and brings good energy to you and the baby. Your little girl is blessed to have such thoughtful and creative parents.
Awesome stuff if I can say so myself, ha. It’s all great looking and balanced. Is the top of the dresser the changing table? Will you be able to fasten little M or V on it somehow? Grannies always worry I guess. I want to come and see your house and sneak another trip in somehow. Heard there’s snow somewhere up North. Snow before Halloween? eck.
Hi Penelope! It’s been so long since I’ve been here – I haven’t been blog-hopping in almost a year.. or so it seems. I’m so happy to hear that your are expecting! Congratulations. All the best!
It’s so *you,* Penny! I love it. She will, too :) Btw- STILL love what you did for my humble abode. Miss you guys. I have to get up there and see that nursery in person soon!

What a great nursery! What a lucky baby!
Beautiful! SHE!! How cool!! — not to mention, my track record for guessing the sex of babies is pretty damn good! I’ve never been wrong except when it came to my own children — go figure.
So happy for you!

What a very darling room. And I love the fact that you did it on a budget. It’s amazingly hard to get inexpensive 2nd hand furniture in Marrakech for some reason.
