Hello there.
It’s been far too long since I’ve written, but I got swept up in the tidal wave of recent events that I haven’t had a moment to sit down to write. I have so much I want to tell you about … where do I even begin?

I am sitting right now in a penthouse apartment in downtown Chicago (a little hungry… must go find a piece of fruit or something). The view is amazing. Yellow sun spills all over the city like thin paint and if i were to capture this scene, I’d use abstract squares and rectangles all piled up on top of one another in towers. Spotted with polka dot cars and dash-mark trains. The morse code of tiny transportation.

I am mid-way through teaching a two day workshop on editorial illustration at Columbia College. So far I think it’s going well. And I’m loving teaching. It’s actually teaching *me* quite a bit… But I’ll tell you more about that later.

More importantly is this quiet moment. I sit here looking out the windows with my little girl softly kicking my insides. Thump thump… bump. “Hello mama. I’m awake now. Let’s play.” This is by far the most exciting news we’ve gotten… finding out last week at the doctor that we are having a girl. (!) The ultrasound was such an amazing experience. I can barely put it into works, but as soon as I saw her in there my heart did flips and I had tears streaming down my cheeks. She was just so… beautiful… alive… baby-like! She stuck her legs out straight above her head, then curled them back up to give me a kick. A little yogini. She hammed it up for the camera, facing us directly so we could see her beautiful face. Her little nose. Closed eyes. Tiny lips… I couldn’t look at Colin because I’d get that little lump in my throat and instantly start crying again if I did. It was just too tender.

I can’t wait to meet this little one in person. I feel so very grateful for her already.

So little miss bean and I are going to get dressed and try to find something to eat around here now. So I’ll leave you, dear readers, with that. So much more to tell you, but rumbling belly wins.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

xoxo

p.s. For those of you who’ve written… I’m sorry, but I’m not doing my normal october contest this year. I just didn’t have time to organize it with this crazy year so far. Next year though! :)

I haven’t stopped beaming since you called me Wednesday to tell me. You are so blessed, and our family will be as well when this little cherub arrives in February. Let the Aunt Katie spoiling begin!!! I’m so glad you’re cherishing each and every moment…and documenting it all, too. Someday you can share all of this with her and she’ll know how much she was loved before she was even conceived or born!!
