reflection
I wanted to thank all of you so much for writing in with your feedback to my last post. I feel so loved and supported… thank you! After listening to all of your thoughts, and many more of my own, I think I am just going to take one month off of blogging, internet reading, and being “out there”. Soak in some reflection time and refresh my senses.
Tomorrow I am starting a five-week healing course in yoga and this little break lines up perfectly with that. (Another sign from the universe, I think.)
Before my month off, I wanted to share one last thing with you: The new Emily Dickinson poster that I designed and illustrated for the Emily Dickinson Museum in Amherst, Massachusetts.

(18×24 poster, available for purchase for only $15 here.)
This is the museum’s spring poster… and I wanted to capture the season and more of Emily’s world. Her poetry is a reflection of her, which I captured quite literally with her reflection in the water. I also thought that showing her upside down would be a good way to get people to reflect a little more on the image, giving just a small pause before the brain recognizes what it’s looking at.
And it’s the pause I want now for myself… I think this piece lines up perfectly with my little sabbatical to think, reflect and have a media detox.
Things seem to start lining up when you’re heading in the right direction…
See you in a month!

So beautiful! I’m a huge Emily Dickinson fan & attempted to buy your last poster from the museum. However, they cashed my money order (for $17 to cover extra shipping charges) & never sent the poster. I emailed Rachel Beanland’s address & the museum’s listed email address 4 times over a seven-month period and then gave up — they never even bothered sending a response to let me know whether it had shipped either way. If it had gotten lost in the mail, I could understand it — but to not respond at all?? Do you have any copies you can sell personally? However, I’d cut off the blurb with the museum on it — i’m too disgusted. Just a heads up for your Canadian fans! Sorry — I don’t mean to be a downer. I was just so excited to see a combination of Emily Dickinson & your artwork! I bought another print (Repose)of yours from Thumbnail press which I love so much and I’d love to have a copy of this one as well.
This is extraordinarily beautiful. I purchased last year’s and have been torn about keeping it at home, or hanging it my classroom. This solves that quandry. They could not have picked a more fitting illustrator to depict Ms. Dickinson.
All the best to you.
if this is what you are leaving us with, i am sure you are going to come back inspired and creating amazing work. enjoy your time away to recharge and return to center.
Sometimes the mind needs a vacation too… Have a nice holiday and see you soon!

I love this poster!!!
I have another reflections ;)
I found a copy of Cricket at our library with your amazing illustation. From your little bio I found Illustrated Friday, too. I am thrilled to participate in such a great project and happy to discover your art. I look forward to your return to the bloggy world and seeing what a month of renewal brings.
i was so excited to see your illustration when i was out in amherst this past weekend…saw it in the pioneer valley travel guide (which i’ve kept because of it) and have got to get to emily’s house one of these days (so far have only been to her grave)…was going to look up your blog today and found it serendipitously thru another blog…escape into the beautiful (e.d.)
You are in my thoughts…and I can’t wait to see you in September!
LOVE this poster you designed. It’s one of my favorites of yours!!
