    I think that’s pretty darn fascinating. I actually noticed the phenomenon he’s describing – the translation of the world into lines and shapes, which your eye then translates back into the world – the other day when I was making a drawing. It felt pretty magical, even then.

    Yes! This reminds me of my figure drawing teacher’s mantras, “Draw what you SEE, not what you KNOW” and “Drawing is forgetting the name of the thing one sees.” And thanks–I think I needed reminding of all of these wise words.

    It’s always wonderful when another artist can articulate a feeling, that as an artist I can only do visually! Love the mantra! My whole world is lines, colors and black and white! Thanks for verbalizing it for me!
