vacation
I’m really glad I went on this vacation, because I realized that I’m not much of a “cruise” person… or at least not a carnival cruiser. Maybe some kind of simple, quiet cruise is more my style (is there such a thing)?
Despite the fact that there were lots of bizarre game show-type events, there were a lot of little moments to love. And you could do your own thing for the most part (I read and napped a lot). And I was happy that the other couple we went with shared our sentiments. (Although, looking back, the chocolate bar was ridiculously out of control yummy and having food available whenever you got hungry was pretty nice too.) I also got room service for the first time ever… breakfast room service!… still in my pj’s!… and that was just about the best thing ever.
The shore excursions were really fun: We went swimming with stingrays in Grand Cayman. (I was a little nervous at first because they look scary with their eyes staring at you and they climb up your torso to you to check you out, but after a while I realized they were rubbing against our legs just like kitties trying to “pet” you. :)!)
We went bike riding in Key West. It’s so beautiful there… simple houses and lush green plants…
And we just hung out on the beach in Jamaica, reading our books.
Also… (this was big for me): Seeing everyone half-naked and piled on the boat, stuffing themselves silly was at first very disconcerting to me. (Felt a little zoo-ish and raucous.) But after a while I started to picture everyone as big happy babies… happy to be in the sunshine. happy to be off work. happy to be with their family and friends. And I actually felt my grinch heart grow an inch. And after that, it was the best people watching in history. :) Rock!
Check out some pics:

I went on a “chillin’” cruise once and I really found it to be boring, perhaps I should have taken a carnival cruise.
Ha! Aren’t cruises funny? Andy and I went down to Baja back in May. It was fun but we also agreed we weren’t the “cruise” types. But weren’t the dinners amazing?
Glad you had fun!
I haven’t been a cruise since I was young. I loved it as a kid (it was a Disney cruise!) – made friends instantly and our parents let us roam all over the boat! I don’t know how I’d feel about one now…
Beautiful pictures, thank you for sharing :)
Looks like you were in my neck of the woods (Key West). It’s funny too look at someone’s vacation photos and see your hometown! Hope Key West and it’s people were gracious hosts!
Thanks for sharing your lovely pics :) Glad you had a good time!
Reading your post reminded me of the one and only cruise I´ve ever been to in my life (probably the last too): there were some strong storms so I was seasick for 4 days and had the flu the other 3 days. :D
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us here in your blog.

I have to say that I absolutely love the photo of one of the guys walking out on the pier in Key West. It is a reminder on what a big open world there is! All the pics remind me of Florida…I miss it :(
