"Sometimes the only thing that makes sense to me is a clean kitchen." I love this so much - I can completely and totally relate to that sweet (and clean, organized) feeling. I love my little kitchen, too. :) Yesterday I bought a wee little vase at 826 Valencia & on my way up my stairs clipped off some fresh Jasmine... and it's been keeping me company.

I also agree. There's really something to it - a little physical labor to "zen out" and you end up with a peaceful place that you can feel good about. I think that there's something about cleaning also that works with our destructive and constructive desires all at once. Picking away at something is a natural urge, especially when one is restless or crabby. Cleaning the kitchen is a little destructive - you pull stuff out of the cabinet, tear apart the drawers, scrub off the dirt like you're picking at peeling paint. Except at the end, you've created something positive and complete through this destruction - a clean kitchen.

And when, as an adolescent, my parents divorced, we knew that if we came home and the bathrooms were sparkling, that we should tip-toe that day.

Simply beautiful, both the flowers and the kitchen-cleaning as therapy. I'm a fan of both!

Maybe you should paint your studio pink, but I also love the contrast of the flowers against that pretty grey-blue wall. (Loved that pic of the peonies, awhile back.)

i can relate! a few years ago, i fell in love and bought a new home with a man with two teenage daughters, who lived with us half of each week.

prior to then, i had lived alone for 37 years.

the new chaos drove me batty...to the outer reaches of my sanity. cleaning my kitchen was
practically the only thing that got me through that first tough year.

thanks for sharing.

Oh I know what you mean...I actually enjoy cleaning house, too. Uncluttered house, uncluttered mind. I like your idea of moving into the pink hydrangeas! Then again, as a grasshopper you could have more than one home in different states, perhaps different countries. A pink hydrangea cottage, a green treetop penthouse...
